Protein aggregation (left) is a major problem in the production, storage and application of biotechnologically relevant enzymes. Using NMR spectroscopy and other techniques we will identify key residues on the molecular surface which mediate the aggregation (bottom right). Based on this information we will design engineered variants of the respective enzymes (e.g. Lipase A and Aldolase DERA) (top right) in order to reduce aggregation while maintaining full catalytic activity.
