Project overview

Multi-enzyme cascade reactions are an emerging field in biocatalysis. In this project we aim to establish an artificial cascade system for the generation of a caprolactone derivative by starting from a terpenoid precursor compound. In a four-step biotransformation we will arrange a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase with an alcohol dehydrogenase, an enoate reductase and a Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenase. Suitable biocatalysts for each individual step of the cascade will be identified and combined in a single E. coli biocatalyst for whole-cell biotransformation.
