Research Interests

Michael Bott’s area of research is applied microbiology and he combines basic and applied research. In basic research, he focuses in metabolic regulation, signal transduction and energy metabolism of industrially relevant microorganisms. To gain a global, systems-biology, understanding of these processes, he uses genome-based technologies such as transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics.

In applied research, the focus lies on the production of industrially or medically relevant substances by microbial transformation of renewable resources. Specific organisms are metabolically engineered to create cell factories for industrial biotechnology.
