Project overview

The high mass accuracy of current mass spectrometers, in combination with electrospray ionization (ESI), can be used for the exact determination of pseudo-molecular masses and isotopic patterns. Integration of these data with theoretical constraints and additional data, such as retention indeces and MS/MS-spectra, allows the direct identification of metabolites in complex biological samples. Bacterial mutants, expected to accumulate a metabolite of interest, are analyzed to add evidence to the identification process.
