Research interests

Photosynthetic micro-organisms have got the ability to utilize light energy to build up complex, chemical compounds. These cellular substances can be used for cell growth, cell replication or for the synthesis and storage of energy-rich products (e.g. starch). Certain algae can furthermore synthesize molecular hydrogen, which is an interesting and environmentally friendly alternative to today’s fuels.
We investigate the conversion from light energy into chemical energy, as well as the applied, biotechnological utilization in a number of scientific projects.
