Research interests

The group of Applied Biocatalysis focuses on biocatalytic oxyfunctionalization reactions. This includes the development, characterization, and optimization of biocatalysts and bioprocesses for the functionalization of small molecules for fine chemical production as well as of large molecules of pharmaceutical interest. To accomplish these reactions, various classes of oxygenases, but also Molybdenum-containing hydroxylases are employed. Special emphasis lies on the systematic identification of the major limitations of whole-cell redox biocatalysts under process conditions with the ultimate goal to develop industrially feasible processes via rational cell and process engineering.
